# Promotions and discounts

> Put plans on sale until a date, give WhatsApp buyers a discount, or hand out promo codes, without changing your plan prices.

A promotion lowers what a customer pays at checkout. Your plan prices stay exactly as you set them, and the discount stops on its own when the promotion ends. There is nothing to put back afterwards.

Go to **Promotions**. You need the **manager** role or above to create one.

## Three kinds

| Kind | Use it for | Customer sees |
| --------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Sale price** | *20% off the Week plan for two weeks*, or *Day Pass at ₦400 until Sunday*. | The old price struck out and the sale price, on the portal and on your account page. |
| **WhatsApp discount** | Rewarding customers who buy through your WhatsApp number. | The discounted price in the WhatsApp plan list, e.g. *NGN 450.00 (was 500.00)*. |
| **Promo code** | A code you share on a flyer or status update, e.g. `EASTER20`. | A **Have a promo code?** box at checkout that shows the new price once the code is accepted. |

## The fields

| Field | What it does |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Discount** | **Percent off** (1–99), **Amount off**, or for a sale on a single plan, **New price**. |
| **Plans** | Tick the plans it covers. Leave all unticked to cover every paid plan. Free plans cannot be discounted. |
| **Where** | Shown when you run more than one location. A WhatsApp purchase counts as the customer's own location. |
| **Starts / Expires** | The window it runs in. A sale expires two weeks from now unless you change it. A WhatsApp discount has no end unless you give it one. |
| **Code customers type** | Promo codes only. Customers can type it in any case. |
| **Total uses / Uses per customer** | Promo codes only. Leave blank for no limit. |

The form previews what customers will pay for each plan before you save.

## When more than one applies

**The customer gets the single biggest discount. Discounts never add up.** A plan on a 20% sale bought through WhatsApp with a 10% WhatsApp discount costs 20% less, not 28%.

If a customer enters a code that is worth less than a sale already running, they pay the sale price and the code is not used up.

## What promotions do not touch

* **Automatic renewals** from a customer's wallet charge the normal plan price, even during a sale. A sale is for new purchases.
* **Vouchers** keep the price you set when you generate the batch.
* **Free plans** stay free and keep their once-per-person rule. A discount can never make a paid plan free; if it would, the plan is sold at its normal price instead.

## Seeing how it did

Each promotion card shows its sales, the money collected, and the total given away as discount. Open a payment on the **Payments** page to see which promotion priced it and how much it took off.

Switch a promotion off with its toggle at any time. A promotion that has been used cannot be deleted, because it is the record of why those customers paid less.
