# Refer and earn

> Two separate reward programmes: one for the businesses you refer to WifiPadi, and one your customers run among themselves.

There are two programmes here and they are unrelated. One pays **you**, one pays **your customers**.

Go to **Refer & Earn**. Owner-only.

## Referring another business to WifiPadi

You have a referral code and a link. Give it to another business owner. When they register, they enter the code — or it fills in automatically if they used your link.

You earn credit **when they pay their first WifiPadi bill**, not when they sign up. The reward lands in your WifiPadi wallet, where it goes towards your own subscription — see [Your subscription](/subscription).

The page lists everyone you have referred and where each one stands:

| Status        | What it means                                                                            |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Pending** | They registered with your code but have not paid a bill yet. Usually they are mid-trial. |
| **Qualified** | They paid. Your credit is in your wallet. |

A business can only be referred once, by one referrer.

## The customer referral programme

This is a separate scheme your own WiFi customers run among themselves, to bring you more customers.

* A customer shares their code with a friend.
* The friend enters it when they sign up on your portal.
* When the friend **makes their first payment**, the customer who referred them earns points.
* Those points sit in a points balance. The customer redeems them into their own wallet when they want to, and then spends that balance on your plans.

Points are only paid on a real purchase. Signing up is not enough, which is what stops the programme being farmed with throwaway accounts.

Both people must be customers of your business — this brings you new customers, it does not send them elsewhere.

The reward per referral and what a point is worth are shown on the **Refer & Earn** page.

<Note>
  Both programmes pay in the same direction: the person who did the referring gets the reward, and only once the person referred has actually paid money. Nothing is paid out for a signup.
</Note>

## Worth knowing

* **The credit is credit, not cash.** A tenant reward can only be spent on your WifiPadi subscription; a customer reward can only be spent on your plans.
* **Referral rewards appear in your wallet history** with a reward note against them, so they are easy to tell apart from your own top-ups.
* **Tell your customers the programme exists.** It is on their portal account page, but an [announcement](/announcements) is what actually gets it used.
