A plan is what a guest buys on your captive portal. You need at least one before a gateway is any use. Go to Plans → Create plan.

The fields

Use the toggle on a plan card to take a plan off sale without deleting it. Deleting is refused for a plan anyone has ever bought, because that would take their purchase history with it.
Data is counted in decimal units throughout WifiPadi: 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes. A 5 GB plan delivers five billion bytes, and both upload and download count towards the limit.

Two plans, one name

A plan name must be unique within its scope. Every site is one scope and each location is another. This is what lets you sell Day Pass at ₦200 in one branch and ₦350 in another: create it twice, once per location, and leave the shared version off. The dropdown greys out any scope that already sells that name, so you find out before you save rather than after.

Data limits and device limits together

A data limit is one shared allowance, not one per device. Some gateways can meter that allowance across several devices at once and some cannot, so on a capped plan the number of devices that actually run at the same time depends on your hardware. You do not have to work out which is which. If you set a data limit and more than one device, the plan form tells you — by name — which of your gateways would run that plan one device at a time, and what to do about it.
If you see that warning, your options are: remove the data limit, set Devices to 1, or — on a Nano Pi that simply has not reported what it can do yet — run Agent update from its gateway page. See Looking after a gateway.
Customers on a capped plan can move their access between their own devices themselves, from the portal. The device they choose stays chosen rather than being taken back by whichever one checks in next.

Speed limits and fair use

The two are different tools.
  • Download / Upload speed is a hard ceiling for the whole plan. Use it to keep a cheap plan cheap.
  • Throttle after is a soft floor. The plan keeps working past that point, just slower.
Fair use is what makes an unlimited plan safe to sell. Leave Data limit blank so it never cuts off, and set Throttle after so one guest streaming all day cannot flatten the line for everyone else.

Free plans

Set Price to 0. The guest still signs up and still gets a duration, a data limit and a device count — they simply are not charged. Useful for a hotel that includes an hour with the room, or for testing your portal end to end before you open.

Testing a plan

Create your cheapest plan, connect a phone to the WiFi, and buy it. Then check:
  • Access is granted within seconds of paying — if it takes minutes, see Connect the webhook.
  • The plan appears under Payments as Successful.
  • Sessions shows the phone as live.
  • The speed matches what you set.
